Alita movie sequel won’t happen unless we act now

Alita: Battle Angel didn’t do so great in the cinemas, and in light of recent controversy, Disney are washing their hands of the film. The Alita movie sequel won’t happen, unless we act now.

Disney announced that they are not interested in making a sequel for Alita: Battle Angel. Despite, leading lady, Rosa Salazar declaring her unconditional support and interest in the project Disney are walking away. At the TCA, Rosa Salazar talked about her role as Alita in the film adaptation of the popular manga, and her thoughts on the live-animation nature of her character. She replied “I would play Alita ‘til my last breath, I would, and thanks to the performance capture technology, I probably could.”

Interesting topics

Rosa Salazar believes that Disney is currently distancing themselves from the project because of the recent Disney/Fox acquisition. “Yeah, I mean, they had a crazy merger,” she said. “People are gaining jobs, people are losing jobs. The whole Disney/Fox acquisition is so involved, this isn’t the right time to call Alan Horn and be like, ‘Hey, bro, I know you got a lotta stuff going on, but like what about Alita 2?’” But unfortunately the real reason why Disney is turning a blind eye to the franchise might be political.

Politics ruined Alita

Alita: Battle Angel has been coined as controversial by many popular mainstream websites, not because of the movie itself, but rather the fan base. The Independent contributor, Adam White, wrote an article painting the vast majority of the movie’s fans as alt-right. What does that mean? According to Wikipedia this means a far-right, white supremacist, white nationalist, white separatist, anti-immigration and sometimes antisemitic movement based in the United States. And, of course, due to the recent tragic events that happened in America, when the mainstream media uses this term to describe the movie’s fan base, Disney want nothing to do with it.

An insider told us that Disney believe the franchise to be permanently tainted by extremists and that making a sequel would only be “catering to white nationalist extremists”. So there is little to no chance of a sequel.

Alita and fans wrongfully condemned

There is absolutely nothing that links the Battle Angel, or her fans, to any political extremist group. Even the most loyal fans, the Alita Army, distance themselves from any political talk and they love Alita: Battle Angel based on its own merits. Even the sub-reddit is void of any political discussion. The Independent article was clearly a smear campaign against the movie, as pointed out by Spencer Baculi of Bounding Into Comics. Unfortunately, it seemed to have worked.

I think Disney need to be reminded that Alita has fans all over the world that are not at all invested in American partisan politics. I’m am a huge, albeit new, fan of the movie. I missed it at the cinemas because it wasn’t really advertised here (that’s probably the reason it didn’t do too great at the box office). I want a sequel, and I want to see it in the cinema! But, sadly, it looks like the Alita movie sequel won’t happen… unless we act now!

Save Alita!

If we want to save Alita we need to act now. How, you ask? Money talks, baby! Petitions barely ever do anything, if you want to show your support, do so by buying merchandise; it’s called voting with your wallet, and it is super effective!

If you already own the movie on DVD, Blu-ray or 4K disc then you can check out the official Fox Store, it has plenty of awesome Alita goodies: phone cases, t-shirts, figurines, you name it!

If Disney sees the numbers go up, I guarantee you, they will green-light Alita 2, and maybe even Alita 3. So, do your part, act now, and support Alita. Otherwise it could be goodbye forever.
