Last year YouTube published one of the most disliked videos onto their platform. This year they intended to do better, but just got lazy. This guy fixed it.
The YouTube Rewind videos were always supposed to showcase new and old talents that made the platform what it is, but last year they completely ignored the actual creators and went for celebrity cameos instead. Understandably real content creators were a bit peeved.

The infamously bad, and largely disliked, video starts with Will Smith — who, then, just created his own channel to cash in on that YouTube monies — saying, “if I controlled rewind I would want Fortnite and Marques Brownlee.”
What followed was a terrible skit of non-YouTubers trying to be funny and using outdated memes. The video felt like an awful mix of the worst from ‘fellow kids’ and ‘cringe’ Reddit posts.
People call YouTube Rewind lazy
YouTube fans weren’t impressed and the video quickly hit 17 million dislikes making it one of, if not the, most disliked videos on the platform.
This year YouTube did listen and some of our favourite YouTubers finally got a deserved spot in the video (even some popular ASMR YouTubers), however, it felt half-arsed. At least the last video had some production to it.
There’s no unique content or collaborations in the new video and many are just calling it a glorified top 10 list.
One small-time YouTuber took matters into his own hand and created a video that he deems worthy of his favourite creators.
JayLaw (JayLaw_YT on Twitter), a 52k subscriber content creator, posted this on his channel, “YouTube Rewind 2019 is about taking you back in time and showing the journey the site has taken since its inception in 2005. From the original legendary creators such as Shane Dawson, Jacksfilms, Smosh and Jenna Marbles to the later arrivals of PewDiePie, Markiplier and Jacksepticeye. This is made by a creator for the creators.”
YouTube rewind fixed!
Not only is YouTube rewind fixed, JayLaw also delivered one of the most emotionally impacting YouTube videos of late by featuring “YouTube Angels” the amazingly talented creators who we’ve lost over the years yet remain immortalised on the platform.
On the lighter side of things, JayLaw featured some of the biggest trends that started on YouTube, like the Harlem Shake, the video even takes a punt at YouTube’s last effort of creating a rewind video.
