Assassin’s Creed 2022 called Warriors, set in Japan, female protagonist

Date:

New leak alleges that Assassin’s Creed 2022 is set in feudal Japan and play as a female only protagonist called Akako Shiratori.

Looks like the rumours were right and the Assassin’s Creed franchise is finally going to Japan. Next big game will reportedly take place in Tokyo, Japan, and will feature a female protagonist.

After the outstanding success and overwhelmingly positive reception of Sucker Punch Production’s Ghost of Tsushima other game developers are now ready to create games based in the beautiful Japanese landscapes.

Ubisoft are working on their next big Assassin’s Creed game and it is rumoured to take place during the Edo period in Japan.

The Edo period or Tokugawa period is between 1603 and 1868 in the history of Japan, when Japan was under the rule of the Tokugawa shogunate and the country’s 300 regional daimyō. Emerging from the chaos of the Sengoku period, the Edo period was characterised by economic growth, strict social order, isolationist foreign policies, a stable population, “no more wars”, and popular enjoyment of arts and culture.

You play as a young novice female member of the Assassin’s Brotherhood of Japan called Akako Shiratori. Being one of the only female assassins in the “brotherhood” you are hellbent on proving women can be just as good or even better than men.

Assassin’s Creed: Warriors is set mostly in Tokyo but you can travel to other smaller towns.

The source alleges that the “Jomsviking System” in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla was ultimately a beta, or rather test version, of the assassin recruit system used in Warriors.

Jomviking system AC Valhalla

Named after the old Norse elite Viking mercenaries, the “Jomsviking System” allows players to recruit, customise, and deploy your own Jomsviking, which can then be recruited by other Valhalla players.

This system has reportedly been buffed up and will be a big feature in Ubisoft’s 2022 flagship title Assassin’s Creed: Warriors.

The leaker goes on to say that the game draws “heavy inspiration” from Japanese mythology and that you will able to fight Oni and Yokai.

Asasssin's Creed Warriors Oni

Oni is a kind of Yokai (yōkai), demon, ogre, or troll in Japanese folklore. They are typically portrayed as hulking figures with one or more horns growing out of their heads. Stereotypically, they are conceived of as red, blue or white-coloured, wearing loincloths of tiger pelt, and carrying iron kanabō clubs.

Yokai are a class of supernatural creatures and spirits in Japanese folklore. The word ‘yokai is made up of the kanji for “bewitching; attractive; calamity” and “spectre; apparition; mystery; suspicious.” Yokai are also referred to as ayakashi, mononoke or mamono.

Sadly, according to the leaker, the game will not be coming to last-gen consoles so PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners will either need to buy the new console or purchase it on PC.
