Why did DICE take their sweet time making Battlefield 6? It’s been almost 3 year since the last game. Could it be that they were working on Bad Company 3?
Rumours are spreading that Battlefield 6 will be coming to the Xbox via Game Pass on day one this fall. Although many people saw this coming after Microsoft acquired EA Play, some are excited because they believe the next game to be Bad Company 3.

Up until 2018 EA were releasing Battlefield games annually. However, after the colossal failure that was Battlefield 5, DICE decided to go back to the drawing board.
In 2019 EA announced that DICE is working on a new Battlefield game, but said that it won’t arrive until financial year 2022, which runs between April 2021 and March 2022.
“Targeting new innovation that will be enabled by next-gen platforms and a growing install base on the new consoles, our next Battlefield game is set for FY2022,” said CEO Andrew Wilson in a post-earnings call back in 2019.
Battlefield 6 is said to take advantage of next-gen hardware, but EA also hinted that it may not be available on current-gen consoles. According to Andrew Wilson it is the biggest game that DICE has ever worked on.
“DICE is creating our next Battlefield game with never-before-seen scale. The technical advancements of the new consoles are allowing the team to deliver on a true next-gen vision for the franchise. We have hands-on play testing underway internally, and the team’s been getting very positive feedback on the game as we’ve begun to engage our community. The next Battlefield is set to launch in holiday 2021, and we are excited to share a lot more about the game in the spring,” Wilson added.
Battlefield 6 is Bad Company 3… kind of.
Industry insider with a reliable reputation of leaking accurate information, Tom Henderson, dropped hints about the next Battlefield game, and it looks like it might be the highly anticipated Bad Company 3.
When one fan reminisced about the glory days of Battlefield Bad Company 2, Henderson responded, “You’ll be a happy bunny next year then” with a little smiley face for his followers. He clarified that Battlefield 6, like Bad Company 2, is set in the modern-era.
Another leak that appeared online in 2019 said made similar claims, except that it won’t be the Bad Company sequel we all want. According to the anonymous leaker Battlefield 6 was supposed to be Bad Company 3 but the developers later dropped it from the title because “it didn’t feel like Bad Company“.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 is largely considered to be the best game of the franchise and many fans have been eagerly waiting the highly anticipated sequel. It would make perfect sense for DICE and EA to deliver Bad Company 3 to their fans after disappointing them with Battlefield 5.
