Senua’s Saga Hellblade II takes place in Iceland and will be a lot darker


Developer Ninja Theory announced today that the highly anticipated videogame Senua’s Saga Hellblade II will take place in Iceland.

Iceland’s beautiful yet alien environments have often inspired gamer designers and film makers. Hideo Kojima made it no secret that Death Stranding’s game world was heavily inspired by Iceland. However, Ninja Theory is going one step further an recreating actual Icelandic locations for Hellblade 2.

Founder and Game designer at Ninja Theory, Tameem Antoniades, said that he was initially inspired to make Hellblade II during a trip Iceland. He explained that the Iceland’s amazing landscapes and nature gave him the perfect setting for the sequel.

The previous game, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, is based on Nordic mythology, specifically on the Manuscripts of Prose Edda which was written by the ancient Icelandic historian Snorri Sturlusson.

Tameem explained that the Hellblade II game world is not only inspired by and based on the landscapes, but will have real Icelandic locations.

Tameem hopes that by recreated real Iceland locations, Ninja Theory will be able to replicate and simulate the unique, beautiful yet dark and dangerous that Iceland has to offer.

Ninja Theory worked with Iceland’s leading film company Saga Film to scout locations that would be perfectly suited for the game’s dark story. Quixel scanned the scouted locations on behalf of Ninja Theory to ensure that the 3D environment would be as accurate as possible.

Hellblade 2 uses real Icelandic locations and has authentic nature elements.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II was originally announced in 2019 as an Xbox One. Xbox Series X, and Windows exclusive and will not be available on PlayStation. and it has been confirmed that the game will be released on PC (Windows). Although Ninja blade have not announced a release date for Hellblade II it is slated for a 2020 release and is supposed to be out later this year.
