Vampire: Bloodlines 2 missions can be skipped if you are triggered

Date:

Vampire: Bloodlines 2 senior narrative designer said they are very concerned about people being triggered by the game and are giving them the options to skip missions.

Gamers are concerned that Vampire: Bloodlines 2 might offend their sensibilities or trigger their PTDS, but the developers assure them that they don’t have to play the game to complete it.

Everybody is offended by something and now and people are worried that Vampire: Bloodlines 2 might have dialog, themes, or gameplay that will trigger them. Usually, in these cases, gamers could opt not to purchase games that they don’t like, or at least express how much they disliked the game after-the-fact.

Sadly, that is not the case anymore. Developers are being coerced into censoring their games or straight up altering the narrative to be more compatible with ‘progressive’ liberalism. If they don’t, the fear being cancelled by an angry minority.

Many developers have caved to the demands of these loud angry minorities who complain that the main protagonist isn’t LGBTQ+ or a person of colour. This is the case for Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II; two beloved “cis” gendered characters allegedly get brutally murdered by Chinese minorities, one of whom is reportedly a trans woman called Abby.

Now the highly anticipated sequel to one of the greatest pen-to-paper role-playing game adaptations, Vampire, developed Paradox Interactive is facing that same firing squad.

Cara Ellison, the senior narrative designer for Bloodlines 2, responded by saying that they are implementing plenty of trigger warnings and even giving players the ability to skipping entire missions to ensure nobody gets triggered or offended.

“We are 100% concerned that some content in the game could be difficult for players living with trauma or a mental issues,” Cara wrote in response to a concerned trans gamer.

Vampire: Bloodlines 2 triggering

Malkavian playthrough may upset PTSD sufferers. Vampire: Bloodlines 2 missions can be skipped if you are triggered.

She continued: “For the Malkavians we will make sure to describe to the player what they may experience when playing. But what may be difficult for us is making some of the systematic or scripted events turn on or off selectively. We are moving away from the ‘fishmalk’ portrayal of this iteration of Bloodlines, so we expect the Malkavians to be much more unsettling or scary this time around.”

Cara concluded: “Rachel and I have discussed some ways to be kinder to players who might have PTSD issues in particular, and one of the things we are considering is pitching to the team is a part of the accessibility menu where we outline the the thematic content of each mission so that you can prepare yourself ahead of time for a particular mission, choose not to play a side mission that involve some issues you feel uncomfortable about, or grab a friend or partner to play through certain content with you. What we may do is give players a run down in that menu of what to expect from Malkavian playthroughs so that you can make a more informed choice about whether you feel comfortable playing that way. That way, we not changing the experience, but we are giving you space and time to consider when you’d like to continue.”

Understandably some people who suffer from severe mental illnesses may feel uncomfortable playing the game as a Maklavian. The Malkavians are one of seven playable clans in Vampire universe. Malkavians are all clinically insane; the mental illnesses they suffer range from schizophrenia to near-catatonia.

Vampire: Bloodlines 2 has many trigger warnings and missions can be skipped if you’re offended.

Vampire: Bloodlines 2 is set to release later this year (2020) on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
