Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Feral Edition is bringing the bestselling book phenomenon to consoles on 23 October, and its cleverest idea is letting fans create a cat instead of borrowing somebody else’s hero.
TRAILMARK Games and Coolabi Group have confirmed the expanded edition for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. Four storylines written specifically for the game by Erin Hunter turn ThunderClan, ShadowClan, RiverClan and WindClan into separate campaigns rather than four differently coloured doors to the same adventure.
Your cat, your Clan, your mess to clean up
Players can customise their own warrior, choose a Clan and rise through its ranks while exploring forests, marshes, moorlands and sacred locations from the books. Familiar characters appear alongside an original cast, while choices shape relationships, rivalries and the path through each Clan’s prophecy.
That is a much better fit for the source material than forcing everyone to replay one famous character’s story. Warrior Cats has always thrived on belonging: the rules of a Clan, the friends inside it and the delicious possibility that somebody is about to break every rule before breakfast.
The Feral Edition is mostly cosmetic—but fans will notice
The Feral Edition adds eight Cat Creator elements, 12 wearable accessories, cel-shaded character skins, four photo-mode poses and four photo effects. None of that sounds essential to the campaign, but a game built around making your own cat lives or dies by whether that cat feels properly yours. Twelve accessories can become serious business remarkably quickly.
The actual adventure mixes exploration, scent tracking, climbing and environmental puzzles with strategic turn-based battles. Each Clan has its own culture, territory and complete story, giving the structure a reason to support repeat play rather than treating the Clan choice like a personality quiz that disappears after ten minutes.
A book adaptation that understands the fantasy
The official TRAILMARK Games page promises branching storylines, dynamic quests and choices that influence the journey. The studio has also confirmed versions for Xbox Series X|S and PC on the broader game page, although Five Star Games’ Feral Edition announcement specifically names the two Nintendo systems and PS5 for this October console release.
It arrives during a surprisingly good stretch for colourful console adventures. Splatoon Raiders is turning familiar turf warfare into a treasure hunt, while the enduring appeal of adorable animal companions in games suggests there will always be room for one more furry hero.
Four campaigns should give the choice some weight
The four-campaign structure is especially promising because the Clans are not interchangeable teams. ThunderClan’s woodland home, RiverClan’s waterways, WindClan’s open moors and ShadowClan’s marshes should change how exploration feels as well as who trusts whom. If the writing follows through, picking a Clan becomes a commitment to a worldview, not just a preferred logo.
There is plenty of room for younger players to enjoy the customisation and famous faces, while longtime readers chase the deeper lore around StarClan, the Moonpool and the Island. That two-speed appeal is difficult to balance, but it is also why this adaptation could reach beyond existing fans. A friendly cat creator gets people through the door; faction politics and prophecies are what keep them there.
Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Feral Edition is available to pre-order now. If TRAILMARK gets the Clan politics, exploration and turn-based battles right, fans will finally have the proper digital version of the childhood fantasy: not merely meeting the Warrior Cats, but becoming the most dramatic cat in the forest.
