The more we find out about Grand Theft Auto VI, the more we believe that it is inspired by the story of a real American anti-hero, Barry Seal.
Fans assumed that the most logical move for Rockstar Games to make next was bring back Vice City. Like the previous two Grand Theft Auto games, the in-game locations are based on actual American cities; Liberty City is New York, San Andreas is California, and so on. The only city that hasn’t received a next-gen makeover is Vice City.

There have been substantial Grand Theft Auto VI leaks that have given us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the next installment. It seems as though the majority of the story takes place in Vice City, which is Grand Theft Auto’s version of Miami.
The alleged Grand Theft Auto 6 leak originally appeared on Pastebin, according to a Reddit thread. It claims that GTA VI will feature multiple cities, with players starting in Liberty City as a small-time criminal and then eventually moving to Vice City to join a gang. Players will then be tasked to look after business in Liberty City, and will eventually return to become a drug lord in Vice City. This leak was, in part, corroborated by a former Rockstar employee who referred to the next game as GTAVILSLC on Glassdoor. This could stand for Grand Theft Auto Vice, Los Santos and Liberty City.
Additional information was leaked that also claimed that the majority of the gameplay would take place in Vice City but would include missions where the player would have to fly to South America. Wait a minute, this sounds strangely familiar. Is Grand Theft Auto VI based on one of America’s biggest anti-heroes… Barry Seal?
Barry Seal’s life story reads like a Grand Theft Auto plot. Adler Berriman “Barry” Seal was a Trans World Airlines (TWA) pilot who became a major drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel. When Seal was convicted of smuggling charges, he became an informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration and testified in several major drug trials. He was murdered in 1986 by contract killers hired by Pablo Escobar, head of the Medellín Cartel.
Well, we might be getting Barry’s female counter-part “Berry” because it is rumoured that the next protagonist is going to be GTA’s first female protagonist. But allegedly the current working title for the new GTA game is Project Americas which is a strong indicator that South America plays a massive part in the game.
If GTA 6 is based on Barry Seal’s story you can be sure to expect some epic high-crime gameplay. Things like…
Go into hiding
Barry had a brush-in with the fuzz when he first got involved with Pablo. The CIA relocated him to a tiny little town where he would continue to run his operations.
Flying, lots of flying
If Grand Theft Auto VI is even remotely based on Barry Seal then there will be a lot of flying. You will have to travel to numerous places in both North and South America. It will all be about smuggling, buying and trading to get as much money as you possible can without being stopped by the national guard.
Build your drug smuggling empire
Barry earned a lot money for his drug and gun runs (1.5 million each run). The money would spent on upgrading his home, building his own airport, laundering money by buying businesses and hiring more pilots to join him on his smuggle runs.
Evade multiple law agencies
Barry was a wanted man and was often on the run from multiple law agencies at once. This includes the FBI, DEA, ATF as well as both city and state law enforcers.
Sounds pretty great, right? If you haven’t already, watch American Made starring Tom Cruise to get a good idea of what the next GTA might be like. But, until we actually get an actual confirmation from Rockstar Games this is all just speculation.
