John Boyega has been a vocal critic of the new Star Wars trilogy and rocked up in “Nigerian prince” garb to the London premiere of The Rise of Skywalker suggested that the film is a scam.
The 27-year-old English actor isn’t a massive fan of the new Star Wars trilogy. When asked about Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi Boyega was not impressed and simple shrugged and said, “it could have been better.”

Boyega admitted that he was excited at the concept of the new trilogy and the direction that his character could go, but he ultimately felt screwed over with Rian Johnson’s film.
“I liked the idea of these characters being challenged and separated and stressed, like everyone’s just trying to get to each other — that excited me,” he revealed on The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast.
“But I will be honest in saying I think that they could have done better with it, especially with Finn and Rose.”
Rose’s character, played by Kelly Marry Tran, was completely forgotten in the trilogy finale and barely had 90 seconds of on-screen time.
In protest to the poor treatment of his and Tran’s character Boyega showed up dressed as a “Nigerian prince.”

Although John Boyega is of Nigerian heritage it is widely known that there’s no such thing as a Nigerian prince, but the actor cleverly dressed as the classic Nigerian prince from the advance-fee scam.

An advance-fee scam is a form of fraud and one of the most common types of confidence tricks. The scam typically involves promising the victim a significant share of a large sum of money, in return for a small up-front payment, which the fraudster requires in order to obtain the large sum.
Boyega felt he was promised glory in the new Star Wars trilogy but despite his hard work was left feeling like a fool.
Disney remain oblivious to Boyega’s stunt
Many, including JJ Abrams himself, were completely oblivious to Boyega’s cheeky protest. They simple assumed that he was honouring his family by wearing what they thought was a ‘traditional Nigerian outfit’.
Hopefully now they’ve realised that London movie star was, in fact, calling them out for how they short changed his and Tran’s characters in the new Star Wars trilogy.
