Robert Pattinson’s Batman designed to be softer and more feminine

Date:

Matt Reeves’ upcoming feature, The Batman, will paint a modern and fresh portrait of the caped crusader changing the way fans look at Bruce Wayne.

Many Batman fans were a little confused when Matt Reeves decided to cast Robert Pattinson as a young Bruce Wayne in The Batman (2021). The actor’s body type doesn’t exactly scream caped crusader, but, according to the cast, that’s why he’s perfect for the role.

NEWS: Ironheart is smarter than Iron Man because she’s a girl.

There were some concerns about the casting after Pattinson was sighted on set looking very soft and frail. It was reported that the 34-year-old actor was having troubles bulking up for his role as Bruce Wayne. Insiders have now revealed that Matt Reeves didn’t want him to bulk up, just get toned.

“Matt wanted a softer and more feminine looking Bruce Wayne and it came down to either Rob or Nicholas [Hoult],” a source close to Warner Brothers told Sausage Roll. “The role went to Rob in the end — obviously — because had a more menacing expression and defined profile.”

Not Robert Pattinson’s Batman: Nicholas Hoult was runner up for the role Bruce in The Batman (2021).

In 2019 the some source alleged that Robert Pattinson was a safer choice for the studio.

During quarantine Robert Pattinson expressed his opinion gym culture revealing that he finds a macho male physique problematic. “It sets a precedent,” Pattinson told CQ when they asked why he wasn’t bulking up during production downtime.

Robert said that he deliberately ignored his personal trainer’s pleas, who left him with a Bosu ball and a single weight at the start of lockdown.

“I think if you’re working out all the time, you’re part of the problem,” he said.

He continued: “You set a precedent. No one was doing this in the ’70s. Even James Dean – he wasn’t exactly ripped.” He then elaborated a little on what his training regime is like for the role of Batman, saying, “literally, I’m just barely doing anything.”

His comments go hand-in-hand with the latest rumours hinting that the The Batman (2021) will be more character driven with less focus on action.

The aforementioned rumours claim that this ‘origin’ film will be the awakening about a vengeful young bratty and wealthy republican. Selina Kyle supposedly introduces Bruce to the underground scene in Gotham where he sees how Wayne Enterprises, and capitalism in general, has ruined the lives of the poor and the sick. After witnessing the suffering of the poor and the defenceless he vows to spend his entire inheritance on protecting the less fortunate.

Zoe Kravitz Catwoman

Robert Pattinson’s feminine Batman meets Zoe Kravitz who plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman; Batman’s maker.

Although, for the time being, this is just a rumour, the cast for the upcoming The Batman feature film have strongly hinted that, in a way, Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, is in many ways Batman’s maker lending further credence to the rumours.

“I think Catwoman, Selina Kyle represents really strong femininity, and I’m excited to dive into that. I think femininity represents power, and I think it’s a different kind of power than masculine power. That’s something that’s really interesting about Batman and Catwoman,” Zoe Kravitz told Variety.

She continued: “I like the idea that you can be soft, you can be gentle and still be very powerful and still be very dangerous.”

Jacqueline Durran was hired as the costume designer for The Batman. She primarily designs costumes for women and Reeves believes she can create a slightly more feminine aesthetic for The Batman.

Robert Pattinson The Batman batsuit (2021)

Robert Pattinson’s Batman designed to be softer and more feminine by Jacqueline Durran.

Durran was interviewed by Fashionista where she discussed the design for the batsuit in Matt Reeves’  The Batman film. She was thrilled to have a bit of creative leeway to make caped crusader less macho.

“Because Batman is a man, it’s not fully in my universe. But it is a new adventure for me and it’s very interesting because it’s something I’ve not done before,” she told Fashionista.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz, is still set for an October 2021 release.

What are your thoughts on the new ‘less macho’ Batman? Excited to see a Bruce Wayne who is ‘more relatable’?
