Daniel Johns once was the king of Aussie alternative rock. Girls wanted him and boys wanted to be him. His band was constantly topping the charts with smash hits like Freak, Tomorrow, Israel’s Son, and Ana’s Song.

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns sued the The Daily Telegraph in the supreme court of Victoria after they published a front-page story which fasley claimed that he had visited a notorious Sydney brothel called The Kastle.

The fabricated story that headlined the front-page as “King of the Kastle” last year alleged that the former Silverchair frontman had spent 18 hours inside the Sydney brothel. It was written by one Amy Harris. Both Amy and her editor Mick Carroll were named in the legal suit.

Ana’s Song is reportedly about Daniel Johns’ struggle with anorexia.

However, Johns later stated he had never been to the club and was not contacted before the story was published on 11 August, 2019.

“The article was simply untrue,” Johns said in a statement on Facebook on Thursday.

“No contact was made with me or my representatives to check the facts before the article was published.

“I have asked the newspaper for an apology and retraction. Neither has been provided.

Almost one year later, albeit being forced to, The Daily Telegraph retracted their story and published an official apology. The Daily Telegraph apology reads:

On August 11, 2019, the Sunday Telegraph’s front page contained a photograph of musician Daniel Johns and alleged that he was swaggering out of notorious Sydney brothel, The Kastle.

The Herald Sun reported: “For the past few years, there’s been speculation about Daniel Johns’ orientation. But the Silverchair frontman wants everyone to know – he’s not gay. At Monday’s Big Day Out at Flemington, Johns told the crowd in no uncertain terms that he’s a red-blooded heterosexual male. ‘I’m not f—— gay,’ he said between songs. To show he doesn’t care what anyone thinks, Johns wore a lacy garter on stage. The talk about his orientation has been around for years, but intensified this month when his split from wife Natalie Imbruglia became public.”
