It’s 2021 and COVID travel restrictions don’t seem to be easing up, so the next season of Survivor will be be filmed right here in Australia starting March.
Network 10 producers have reportedly greenlit Australian Survivor season 8 but this time it will take place on one of our many beautiful islands.
Earlier this month Network 10’s executive producer Stephen Tate stated that they working on getting Australian Survivor “made locally”. Up until recently Australian Survivor had been filmed on location in either Fiji or Samoa because it was cost effective for production. However, due to harsh travel restrictions Network 10 are forced to look local.
What 2020 has taught us is if you see a window to getting a TV show made you have to take it,’ he told The Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday, January 3rd.
“We’ve managed to get I’m A Celebrity made, and Amazing Race made in Australia. We’re currently working on getting Survivor made locally.”
He added: “While we’ve struggled, the Australian production community is really benefiting from the amount of production that is happening at home.”
A source close to production has now confirmed that Network 10 has found a shooting location on one of the many beautiful islands off the Australian coast and the network aims to begin filming no later than March, 2021.
“They’ve settled on a location. Casting should start early February, so you should more about auditions later this month.” The source told us.
“Australian Survivor season 8 should premiere no later than August, 2021, with 9th season following shortly behind.”
Australian Survivor is not the only show that is being filmed locally. Both I’m A Celebrity and Amazing Race were both filmed in Australia due to travel restrictions.
The Amazing Race finished filming in Australia in November, 2020. Network 10’s boss Beverley McGarvey was very impressed with the footage and stated that “The footage that I have seen so far is extraordinary. It really showcases our beautiful country and the teams competing this year are competitive, creative and very diverse.”
The Amazing Race Australia premieres early next month, on February 3rd. This is usually the date that Australian Survivor premieres but the producers hope that The Amazing Race will keep you entertained in the meantime.
