Delilah from The Detour deserves her own spin-off

Date:

Ashley Gerasimovich proved that she deserves her own spin-off with her stand-alone performance as Delilah in the episode The Year of The Detour.

The Detour is one of the funniest television shows available on Stan at the moment. It is masterfully written and the production and direction rivals some Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster comedies. Four seasons in and it doesn’t look like the they are about to slow things down. And now we finally got a closer look at the life of Delilah.

What has really sold the series is the on screen, off-beat, romance between Nate (Jason Jones) and Robin (Natalie Zea). Albeit one of the most dysfunctional television relationships, it is one of the sweetest and I want nothing more than a happily ever after for the two of them. So, if the chemistry between the show’s top billed cast is one of its biggest elements of success, how would the show fair without them?

Kudos to the writers and to Ashley Gerasimovich for doing something I thought impossible until last week’s episode. The decision to give the Delilah spotlight seemed risky at the start but proved to be genius. It also proves just how fleshed out every character in The Detour is and how perfectly they’ve been cast. After The Year we got to see what Delilah had been up to since she ran away from home, and it is one of the funniest episodes of the season.

Delilah became one of my favourite television personalities after performing Fun Being Weird at her school’s talent contest. “It’s fun being weird, you should try it sometimes”. Great advice!

Ashley absolutely killed it. She showed us all that she is well and truly able to carry one of televisions biggest and funniest shows. She is funny, she is adorable and – oh my – she is relatable. After watching Delilah’s adventure I wanted more, and that’s when I started thinking… why not give her, her own spin-off!

Delilah is a light-hearted reminder that we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously. We shouldn’t always assume the worst of people, and we should just try to enjoy the crazy ride that we call life. I think we definitely need a Delilah spin-off, what do you guys think?
