Some are calling Jim Carrey creepy for his “I’m 60 and I’m sexy,” Twitter birthday video, but it’s actually a genius throwback to an old bit.
Without context, Jim Carrey’s birthday Twitter video may appear a bit creepy, but the 60-year-old comedian just proved his wit is as sharp as ever with an epic throwback to a joke he made many, many years ago.
“I’m 60 and I’m sexy,” Jim Carrey said in his short Twitter video where he’s celebrating his birthday.
“And tonight I’m having creamed corn and strained peaches,” he said while zooming the camera in on his face.
While some feel that Jim Carrey is recreating a moment from the cult classic comedy film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective when he dives into the dolphin tank and sniffs around the pool, others simply find the birthday video a bit creepy.
It’s ma birthday! Whoohoo! I’m old but I’m gold! I Love you all!!! 🙏🌈❤️ pic.twitter.com/WvFtbMty80— Jim Carrey (@JimCarrey) January 17, 2022
“This genuinely gave me the creeps. Almost had a PTSD flashback of my uncle. Old guys saying ‘sexy’ is definitely a trigger of mine,” one traumatised individual wrote.
“Ewww. Can some one get these creepy boomers off Twitter? Thanks,” another added.
Despite the animosity, many fans took the time to wish Jim Carrey a happy birthday and express their gratitude for the chuckles he has provided.
“Jim, your personality, your magnetism, and all that around it made a difference in my life. Thank you for that. Even when I was sobbing, you made me laugh, and you made me feel like a kid all over again,” one happy fan wrote.
However, what a lot of fans didn’t get is that his creepy Twitter birthday video was, in fact, an epic throwback to a joke he made in an interview on The Late Show With David Letterman.
As part of the promotion for his film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, in which he co-starred with Kate Winslet, Jim compared himself to the ‘Madonna of comedy’ during an appearance on David Letterman’s show.
In 2004, during his Letterman interview, Jim Carrey stated that he had shaved his head in an attempt to reinvent himself. He was 42 years old at the time.
“Someday I can look out at that crowd and say, ‘I’m 60 and sexy’,” Jim Carrey joked.
He is still as brilliant and sharp as ever, as evidenced by the fact that he recalls a joke he made on The Late Show With David Letterman over two decades ago. His birthday video is not creepy in the least, but it is undoubtedly amazing nonetheless.
Jim Carrey, world renowned comedian, is slated to reprise his role as Doctor Eggman/Robotnik in the highly anticipated sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog film, which is set to hit theaters in April of 2022.
