DMCA copyright strikes from ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks resulted in Pokimane’s Twitch ban, which appears to be permanent.
For what Twitch describes as a “severe infraction,” Twitch’s most beloved female streamer has reportedly been permanently banned from the service. Pokimane has been banned from Twitch after ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks sent her a DMCA copyright takedown letter.
Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys was banned by Twitch on January 7 for breaching the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Apparently, this is a major infraction, according to DramaReport sources.
Pokimane streamed 10 hours of copyrighted content owned by the world’s second largest media conglomerate ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks in a Avatar: Last Air Bender “watchparty.”
ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks is a ViacomCBS branch in the United States in charge of several of the company’s television channels and internet sites. The company’s foreign branch is ViacomCBS Networks International. VH1, Paramount Network, Nickelodeon, Warner Media, MTV Entertainment, Showtime, and others are among their subsidiaries.
According to reports, Pokimena, a 25-year-old Canadian influencer, breached copyright laws more than 30 times during her ten-hour live show, which she called a “watchparty.”
The penalty for the offences can reach up to USD$1.8 billion, with the prospect of a five-year jail sentence. Furthermore, analysts say that, as a result of Imane Anys’s big internet presence and substantial financial worth, ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks will aggressively pursue the full amount of damages owed to them.
Pokimane has a large online presence, with more than 8.5 million followers on Twitch, the video game streaming platform. She has been able to transform her gaming interest into a multi-million dollar business venture via hard work and determination. As a result and despite her popularity, it is probable that Twitch will not reactivate her account as a result of this serious violation.
UPDATE: POKIMANE CONFIRMS BAN PERIOD
Pokimane issued a statement regarding the alleged permanent Twitch ban on her personal Twitter account claiming that she’s hopeful that the ban is just temporary and she will do a 12 hour stream when it is lifted.
