5 things we want to see in Overwatch 2

Date:

Blizzard have pretty much confirmed that the next Overwatch game is in development, but very little is known about the game. Here are 5 things we want to see in Overwacth 2.

Late last year I heard a rumour that Overwatch 2 was in development and that it would mainly focus on a story campaign. Of course I took the rumour with a grain of salt but I decided to reach out to Blizzard for a comment. Unfortunately they could neither confirm nor deny the rumours – but shortly after, more and more news started to leaking almost proving that Blizzard were, in fact, working on a sequel.

An industry insider allegedly told Kotaku that Blizzard are working on Overwatch 2 and that they will reveal it at Blizzcon 2019.

Overwatch was originally supposed to be a first-person shooter MMO called Crossworlds but Blizzard ditched those plans in favour of a competitive arena based shooter. The new leaks suggest that Overwatch 2 might be a little more like they first intended the game to be, borrowing pages from Activision’s Destiny I.P using instanced type game-play.

Here are 5 things we want to see Blizzard either improve on or add to Overwatch 2.

Campaign

Overwatch 2 needs a campaign mode | Sausage Roll

Blizzard have given us a taste of what a campaign would be like with Overwatch seasonal events, but unfortunately these events are few and far between and barely scratch at the surface of the game’s spectacular story. Overwatch 2 needs a proper campaign mode that somehow ties each of the heroes stories together.

Co-Op

Although you can play the seasonal events with three others, it is not really a co-operative campaign experience. The seasonal events are more just custom matches where you fight waves of A.I. with your buddies. I want to see a fully fledged campaign mode that is unique to the Overwatch hero I play as and be able to play it with my bestie.

Split Screen

I have Overwatch on PC and PlayStation 4. This is because my nephew and niece also love the game and sometimes they want to play as well. I really feel Blizzard dropped the ball on the console version for not adding a split screen mode; whether they play against or with each other. There are some great 1v1 or even 2v2 modes that would be ideal for split screen. So let’s hope that Blizzard take that into consideration for the Overwatch 2.

Factions

Overwatch has some of the most interesting characters, and they all have really awesome background stories. They even belong to their own factions; the good guys are the Overwatch (obviously) and the bad guys are Talon. This all becomes lost in games because there is no clear divide between the good guys or the bad guys in matches. Wouldn’t it be awesome if you got to choose which side you wanted to fight? It would make the game experience a lot more personal if you were invested in your own faction.

Customisable Heroes

Speaking of a personal game experience, what is more personal than being able to fully customise your own Overwatch hero or Talon villain? Each Overwatch hero belongs to a certain class: offense, defense, tank and support. What if you could give your character select abilities to make them a little more versatile to fit your desired play style. And give them their very unique look so you can truly add your own signature into the world of Overwatch and carve your name into its history.
