What happened to the SledgeHammer Call of Duty game? A lot of people asked themselves last year. The development studio that brought us Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and World War II was rumoured to be in turmoil after two of the co-founders, Glen Schofield and Michael Coundrey, left the company in 2018.

Their departure was described as a drastic shake-up in leadership” which left the rest of the team without vision or drive, sources say.

See Them Rise.

After nearly two years of work on the upcoming Call of Duty game, SledgeHammer had reportedly fallen short of creating anything that is even somewhat like a playable product a source close to development claimed. Activision was allegedly so dissatisfied with SledgeHammer’s game that they terminated the project and fired the developers.

However, everything seems to be back on track and SlegdeHammer Games are very excited to finally tease their next big project; Call of Duty: Vanguard.

The teaser trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: Vanguard instalment, which features aspects that plainly indicate the game will take place during World War II and may even be a true spiritual successor or reboot of their 2017 game. It includes images of vintage weapons, a beach littered with the wreckage of vintage jets, and a woodland in Germany.

Other than that, very little is known about SledgeHammer’s upcoming first-person shooter. It appears to be some kind of alternative history game, a la Resistance: Fall of Man (which might be getting a PlayStation 5 remaster soon), and revolve around a multiple fictional world leaders and British soldier called Sgt. Kingsley.

More on Call of Duty: Vanguard will be revealed during a special free-to-play in-game Warzone event here in Australia on Saturday, 20th of August at 4:30 am Friday, Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT).
