Director Jeff Fowler revealed that filming has started for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie with Tails today, and this is what we know so far.
Jeff Fowler was excited to announce that filming had commenced on the blockbuster smash hit movie Sonic The Hedgehog today. Although very little has been revealed about the movie, this is what we know so far.
The film adaptation to the classic Sega platform game Sonic The Hedgehog was the biggest box office success off last year. While many just tried to undermining its success by saying it was the last movie to not get affected by lockdown, the general consensus from the audience was they absolutely loved it.
At first people were a bit concerned when they saw a realistic version of the hedgehog appear in the firs trailer, but paramount were on the ball and immediately postponed the film so they could make a Sonic that everybody loved. Come the following trailer, it was evident that they delivered.
Although some snobby film critics slammed the film, the vast majority of the viewers — like you and me — loved the film. And when we saw how they teased the sequel, we couldn’t wait.
From the information we’ve gathered on Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie, here is what we know so far:
Tails will play a big role.
Miles Power, better known as Tails because well — err — he has two tails, and was teased at the end of the first movie and now that we’ve seen the logo for the sequel, it is safe to assume that he will play a major role in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
Both the logo and the release date tease this. Tails’ two tails are visible on the on the “2” in the new movie logo. Also, the year for the release date is matched with Tails’ colour.
Jim Carrey will reprise Dr Robotnik.
There’s absolutely nobody that can replace Jim Carrey’s Robotnik. He nailed the role in the first film, and we got to see him go a little mad by the end of the first movie.
So you will be happy to find out that Paramount have secured Jim Carrey for the sequel.
The end of the first movie gives us a glimpse of Robotnik on the Mushroom Planet. At the start of the first film many years will have gone by and he will be totally bonkers and will have crafted himself some robot animals to keep him company.
Sonic 2 will feature classic Zones.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 will feature some of the classic levels from the original video games such us Mushroom Hill, Chemical Plant, Mystical Cave, and Launch Pad.
Sonic and Tails must chase down Dr Robotnik through all these zones and stop him from making it back to planet Earth.
But will Tom (James Marsden) return?
There’s been no official confirmation whether James Marsden will return as Sonic’s best friend Tom in the new movie. But considering that Sonic now lives with him, I think it would be safe to assume that he will at least have a small role or cameo in the film.
James Marsden is reportedly working on the sequel to Disney’s Enchanted (Dischanted) where he will likely reprise his role as Prince Edward. So, if he is not in the sequel, he will at least me mentioned. Heck, Robotnik may even capture him forcing Sonic to look for him.
That’s about all we know about Sonic The Hedgehog 2 movie so far, except that is supposed to hit cinemas around the world April 8, 2022.
