Have Disney and Johnny Depp finally struck a deal for Pirates 6? The beloved actor hints at a return to the franchise during Jeff Beck live show.
After hearing that Disney was apparently preparing a USD$301 million agreement to acquire Johnny Depp to return to the mouse house as the eccentric pirate captain Jack Sparrow. Even though the actor from Edward Scissorhands upped the ante for his return, he may have just dropped a major hint that he’s inked a deal!
Johnny Depp and Disney had a massive falling out after the movie conglomerate decided to fire and blacklist him after unsubstantiated claims and allegations made by the failed model turned b-list Hollywood actress, Amber Heard.
In previous interviews, Depp disclosed just how much of himself he put into the character of Jack Sparrow and how much the role meant to him, but after Disney’s betrayal, the actor vowed that he would not return to the franchise, “not even for USD$300 million and 1 million alpacas.”
A source close to Disney then alleged that the studio was prepping a huge contract to secure Depp’s return to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which included a limited Disney Plus series about the main character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
However, Depp’s representative quickly fired back at Disney saying that they hadn’t heard jack from the studio and instead made a counter offer of more than USD$400 million for the actor’s return, not only to the franchise, but to Disney — and it just might be that the two have actually reached a deal.
Johnny Depp appeared to have teased a potential return to Pirates of the Caribbean during his last live performance with Jeff Beck.
The actor, singer/songwriter, and artist donned the famous burgundy red headband, famously worn by his alter-ego Jack Sparrow while playing guitar live with Jeff Beck. Why does this matter?
Johnny Depp has not been seen wearing that specific headband since his fallout with Disney back in 2019. Jack Sparrow is easily one of Depp’s most recognized and loved roles, and seeing him wearing that burgundy red headband/bandanna would obviously get people to think of the Disney pirate.
While Johnny is commonly spotted wearing a headband/bandanna, he usually sports the black and white polka-dot headgear (as seen below). So, seeing him wear the colours of the beloved captain of the Black Pearl is pretty significant.
While there’s no solid proof that Depp has any plans to return to the franchise, fans may be skeptical that it may happen some day. But there is some light at the end of the tunnel!
Sources confirmed that one of the two Pirates screenplays featured Jack, and Disney have recently re-opened the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland — and better yet… they restored the Jack Sparrow exhibit and are using the original Johnny Depp audio.
Ultimately, it’s really up do Johnny Depp if he wants to return. With that being said, maybe he’s just ready to move on from acting all together and focus on his music.
Oh, and Depp did sign the book that was thrown on the stage as confirmed by fan who attended the show.
