Rockstar games have released the first gameplay trailer for the definitive edition of the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy (GTA Trilogy) which shows the game in all its 4K glory. The Grand Theft Auto series has always been known for pushing the boundaries with their satirical humour. Despite some of the games more controversial scenes and gameplay, Grand Theft Auto has survived the proverbial lynch mob as well angry politicians trying to ban it, and still remains as the highest selling franchises of all time. Sadly, it seems as though Rockstar Games are getting cold feet.

The game industry is saturated with activists and there are fears that a new Grand Theft Auto game would not survive in today’s political climate. Games journalist called the developers of one of the best indie roleplaying games, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, racist and transphobic just because it is a game based in the Bohemian era.

Andreas, RockPaperShotgun, said that the developers were merely masking their bigotry under the guise of recreating historical accuracy and refused to score the game. He echoes outrage medias sentiment by declaring Kingdom Come racist.

Another game that was hit hard by game journalist/activists was Cyberpunk 2077 even though the developers tried to be very inclusive by allowing gamers to create a trans character.

Things have escalated to the point where people are now violently protesting jokes that offend them. Black American comedian Dave Chappelle sparked a walkout and a protest at Netflix for making jokes about transgender people on his comedy special The Closer. The 48-year-old comedian received a death threat from Trans Lives Matter activist after agreeing to meet with disgruntled Netflix employees.

It now appears that Rockstar Games may be toning down the humour of their popular game series Grand Theft Auto.

The GTA Trilogy trailer reveals Rockstar Games removed the Confederate flag from Phil Cassidy’s shirt; a “redneck” character who has appeared in several Grand Theft Auto games including GTA3 and GTA: Vice City. The Confederate flag has been replaced with a generic skull with eagle wings.

Others report that Rockstar Games has toned toned down sexualised content in Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition. A keen-eyed observer pointed out that a sign featuring a woman had seemingly censored her cleavage

According to an anonymous source reported by NicheGamer, Rockstar Games motives were to remove scenes and imagery now deemed controversial to make the game less problematic.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Definitive Edition will launch on PC November 11th via the Rockstar Launcher as well as on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch.
