Date:

If you love Winnie the Pooh and horror movies, too, then you likely will enjoy this slasher twist of the classic kids’ show – Winnie the Pooh. From the cartoon version of these cuddly, lovable creatures to an insane twist where Pooh and Piglet become psychotic murderers. If you’re looking for sweet and cuddly from the Pooh and Piglet of old, you won’t find it here. This is a terrifying horror/slasher film that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Here, we share all of the details you need to know in a complete review of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

About Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

To be clear, while this movie is based on Winnie the Pooh and uses Pooh and Piglet as the primary characters, it really has nothing to do with the original TV show outside of that. If you’re looking for something reminiscent of the cartoon in horror style, you’re not going to find it here. The originals were a stimulant to the creation of this tale. And it all stems from Christopher Robin betraying the creatures of the woods.

The plot starts with a bit of a backstory that lets you know why the animals have become so horrifying. They initially depended on Christopher Robin for food and attention, but then he grew up and left them on their own.

With Christopher Robin no longer around, they had to turn into feral monsters in order to survive, and it went well beyond that. The animals left in the Hundred Acre Wood were angry, betrayed, and cannibalistic. In fact, they ate poor Eeyore. The movie then shoots to a young lady who rents a house in the woods to get away from the struggles of her life and runs into Pooh and Piglet, who terrorize the woods.

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey Review

Considering this film really did not have a huge budget, it has a lot of mixed reviews. Thanks to software like After Effects, it makes it easier for low-budget movies like this to piece their scenes together and add the effects to bring you this completely horrific film. So despite spending less, they really did an overall good job creating a quality movie.

The concept is unique and turns a childhood favorite into a scary film. There are a lot of violent sequences that display Pooh and Piglet, and that really seems to take the focal point of the show. The movie is full of terror and slashing gore, all stemming from Pooh and Piglet terrorizing the woman on a retreat, as well as other victims in the show.

But there is a limited plot behind the movie, with a focus on the slasher violence of these two and not much else. The slasher effects and the thrill are definitely there, but it feels repetitive by the end of the show. There isn’t necessarily a happy ending or hero that overcomes the threat, either. Some scenes are far more popular than others. The top scenes received high marks, while others have absolutely no notoriety. In terms of what others are saying, the film rings in at about 50/50 in terms of those who love it and those who hate it. The movie certainly has its moments that make it stand out.

Of course, this Blood and Honey movie is not the first beloved children’s film to be turned into a horror film. In fact, many other films are coming out with similar scary twists, and there are plans for more to come. Shows like Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, Bambi: The Reckoning, and The Mean One are just a few examples.

Movie Cast & Filming Details

While there aren’t a ton of big names in this horror film, there are a few you might recognize. The most notable characters are Piglet, Pooh, Christopher Robin, and Maria. There are also other characters throughout the film, but their roles are not as significant.

The movie does not portray other characters like Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, or Tigger, as far as we can tell, and they aren’t even a thought on the cast list. These are some of the top cast names in the film:

  • Christopher Robin – Nikolai Leon
  • Pooh – Craig David Dowsett
  • Piglet – Chris Cordell
  • Maria – Maria Taylor

As there are other victims and people in the show, there are many other cast members apart from these top players.

The movie was primarily filmed in England, and it took only about ten days to complete filming for the primary scenes. ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions collaborated on the production of the film. Since the characters of Winnie the Pooh are still owned by Walt Disney Studio, they had to be very cautious about the details. The original copyright on Winnie the Pooh lapsed in January 2022, and they immediately started producing this horror flick.

The score of the film was designed using a violin that was filled with honeycomb, creating a twist that really incorporated the true nature of Winnie the Pooh.

Final Thoughts

With the understanding that the budget for this Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was really a low number, it’s an overall great horror/slasher movie. It brings together the thrills of violence and gore with Pooh and Piglet, giving it a unique backstory. There are certainly some details that could be improved, such as lighting and a deeper plot, but overall it’s a well-made movie that has been popular with horror movie fans.
