PlayStation 5 consoles already “bricked” or dead on launch day

Date:

People are reporting that their brand new PlayStation 5 consoles are dead or “bricked” only hours after receiving them on launch day.

A warning for early adopters. Many people are reporting that their PlayStation 5 consoles are dying after few hours of play. Issue does not seem to be widespread, but it exists.

It was to be expected. So far a handful of PlayStation 5 consoles have been reported to be completely broken after just hours of play.

Popular YouTuber and game reviewer ACG uploaded a video to his YouTube channel stating that his console is dead. He claims it is hardware failure.

“At this time my PS5 is 100% dead. I was having the storage rebuild issues others reported but mine escalated to full errors and network issues/boot. Sony and I were working through troubleshooting when it died completely. So at this time I will be moving content around,” Jeremy Penter, better known as ACG, tweeted.

PlayStation 5 is huge
The PlayStation 5 is a huge brick when it is dead.

He continued: “I did promise viewers I would give out the PS5. So I have preordered another online. Since there is no reason for people to wait. When the first arrives I will be giving it to viewers in a giveaway versus using it myself. I can wait for the 2nd.”

Jeremy Penter then followed up with an apology to his disappointed fans and offered a Patreon refund for anyone who was signed up to see an early review of the PlayStation 5.

ACG is not the only one experiencing issues with the PlayStation 5. One person who pre-ordered his console from GameStop in the US said that his console bricked instantly.

He shared a photo of him taking the console back to GameStop on Twitter.

Others are reporting that the PlayStation 5 is breaking simply for putting into Rest Mode.

Rest Mode reportedly bricks the PS5.

Dozens of people are alleging that their PlayStation 5 consoles bricked while playing Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales after putting it in Rest Mode.

PlayStation fanboys are quick to jump to Sony’s defence and claiming that these claims are false. However, one presented with evidence they blame the user for “not doing it right.”

DON’T RUN GAMES OF EXTERNAL HDDS!

According to some the PlayStation 5 has issues running games of an external hard-drive and in some cases may even brick your console. PlayStation fanboys have said that Sony warned people not to play games of external hard-drives and believe the user is to blame and should not be reimbursed for the bricked PlayStation 5.

Fortunately, this issue does not seem to widespread. It is only affecting a handful of consoles for the moment. Only time will tell if the first batch of consoles are faulty.

This is why many people don’t jump the gun to become early adopters of new tech; in most cases there are bound to be some problems.
