A real Hellmouth opens up at a cemetery in Missouri – Buffy fans respond

Date:

A haunting video shows a hollowed tree with flames burning inside of it at a cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Buffy fans describe it eerily as Hellmouth like.

In the Buffyverse a Hellmouth is an area in which the barriers between dimensions is particularly weak, allowing the creation of portals between Earth and several hell dimensions. For these reasons, the Hellmouth attracted demons and other supernatural creatures, becoming a “hot spot” for supernatural activity. A Hellmouth is created when a Deeper Well or Wellspring is used to cut a path to another dimension and allowing its magic to flow through.

What makes this video below even creepier is that right in the centre of the hollowed tree appears to be a horned demonic face or, as one user described it, a Shrek face.

The actual footage was taken by Jim Probst at St. Louis cemetery in Missouri, USA, back in 2017. The tree was struck by lightening at 2AM causing the tree to explode. The heat brought the subsurface moisture to a boil which made the tree expand. The trunk eventually burned out leaving a hollowed gap in the base of the tree.

Although this looks like Sunnydale and is super creepy, it obviously isn’t a real Hellmouth. That hasn’t stopped Buffy fans from having a bit of fun. The comments are hilarious! One user commented, “Did a baby Queller demon land in there? Because killer snot monsters from outer space are serious business.” While another user thought this was entirely Xander’s fault, “Xander, don’t speak Latin in front of the trees.”
